Where students gain the knowledge and skills to become future STEM innovators and leaders.

The Governor’s School is a selective magnet program that serves high-achieving juniors and seniors from seven school divisions: the cities of Hampton, Newport News, and Poquoson and the counties of Isle of Wight, Gloucester, Williamsburg/James City, and York.

Students spend half their day at The Governor’s School, taking math, science, and research courses taught by faculty with advanced STEM degrees. Courses offer college-level content enriched by sophisticated, hands-on labs, real-world projects, and collaboration with highly motivated peers. Seniors complete a capstone project of their choice, guided by science professionals. In addition to coursework, students engage in multiple competitions and extracurricular activities.
